Autism Spectrum Assessment Service

The Autism Spectrum Assessment Service provides diagnosis and help for children and young people up to 18 years of age suspected of being on the Autism Spectrum. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a condition that affects social interaction, communication, interests and behaviour. We’ll help to identify the difficulties children and young people referred to us face and work with them and their families and carers to ease those difficulties.
The Autism Spectrum Assessment Service provides diagnosis and help for children and young people up to 18 years of age suspected of being on the Autism Spectrum.
The Team will only screen requests for an Autism Assessment if the requests meet their criteria. A request for assessment will not be accepted if there is not clear evidence that the child or young person has signs or symptoms that are expected for ASD or when a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist does not support the request.
The assessment process follows 7 steps and 30% of children who go through this process (known as ‘the pathway’) are not diagnosed with autism however the assessment process will help provide information and advice which will assist you in the future.
